For the past few days, the state of Sikkim has been facing multiple flash floods due to unexpected rainfall. This has caused heavy damage to the state. There has also been an orange warning issued for 3 days in the North Eastern region. Sikkim has always been extremely prone to such natural calamities. Also, the highway and logistical chains have always been weak and fragile leading to massive supply chain issues during the monsoon season.

Sikkim's topography is almost completely comprised of steep hilly ranges. This combined with it's strategic importance with regards to China has made the state an important place for construction of roads. However, the state also lacks multiple roads and even essential logistics for a smooth transit through this region.

Due to the flash floods, a huge section of NH10 was washed away. This stretch was from a place in North Sikkim called Pegong to the dam in Chunthang. Due to this, 3000 tourists were stranded in the areas of Lachung and Lachen. This is a major issue as both this area is located very close to the Chinese border and will play a very important role in a war time.
