A large demonstration supporting the European Union and opposing Russia has broken out in Georgia.

In Tbilisi, thousands of protesters gathered to demonstrate against a new law that Georgia's president believes was influenced by Moscow. The protesters waved EU flags and clashed with heavily armored police, who used water cannons against them. The demonstration may concern Russian President Vladimir Putin, as anti-Moscow sentiment grows in former Soviet republics. The scene of protesters waving the EU's blue flag evoked memories of the Euromaidan Revolution in Kyiv, which started in 2013 as a response to Ukraine's president suspending talks on an association agreement with the EU in favor of closer ties with Russia. The revolution turned violent, resulting in the death of dozens of Ukrainians and ultimately causing the former president to flee the country.
