3 ATC officials suspended on an averted mid air collision

On Friday morning (24th march) an Air India plane flying from Delhi to Kathmandu and a Royal Nepal airlines aircraft coming to Kathmandu from Kuala Lumpur almost met with a mid air collision.

The Air India plane was descending from an altitude of 19,000ft while the Nepal Airlines A320 aircraft was flying at an altitude of 15,000ft at the same location. According to FAA regulations a plane cannot be less than 3,000ft of vertical separation. The collision was averted thanks to the swift diversion by the Nepal Airlines pilots who, upon realizing the proximity, descended to an altitude of 7,000ft.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has suspended three Air Traffic Control officials for 'carelessness'.

The CAAN has formed a three member committee to investigate further on the matter. As of now there isn't any official response from Air India.
